School of Primary Care at the Severn Deanery

Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Severn Deanery School of Primary Care. The school was formed in April 2007 and is part of the educational arm of South West Strategic Health Authority.

We are responsible for the delivery of General Practice education in the counties of Avon (Bristol, Bath & Weston), Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Our main workload relates to second year foundation placements in primary care, all aspects of GP specialist training, retainer programmes and CPD for established GPs within the school's footprint. This is an exciting time to be involved in medical education and the school is working hard to develop additional expertise in new areas such as NHS appraisal, returner programmes, assessment and quality assurance within the primary care setting.

The Head of School and administrative team are based in our new offices at Vantage park, Hambrook, Bristol and are supported by an experienced team of associate GP directors.

Navigating the Site

The site is divided into different areas, shown in the menu to the left of this page. Some areas are designed for everyone, including the public; others are more specific to the training programme offered by the school and will require you to login. In the coming months we will be adding more content to these pages; please bookmark this site and check back on a regular basis to make sure you are fully up-to-date.

If you are New to the Programme, there is information about the hospitals and trusts of the Severn Deanery here, whilst information about the georgraphic area covered by the Deanery can be accessed here. The Professional Networking and Get in Touch pages provide you with the tools to communicate with your colleagues and to feedback to the school. We will be developing these areas over the coming months, so check back regularly to access new features.

Accessing Restricted Areas

Every trainee in the School of Primary Care is required to create a user account and password for this website. Your password will give you access to restricted areas of the website and tools to help you communicate with your colleagues and with the faculty.

As part of the account setup process, you will asked to provide a contact email address and telephone number; these will be the school's primary media for communication with you. It is very important that you keep these details up-to-date as you move around the different trusts and hospitals of the Severn Deanery.

GP Specialty Training Curriculum Review

As you may be aware the College has conducted its first formal review of the General Practice Specialty Training Curriculum. This has incorporated changes recommended by the Curriculum Guardians and feedback from users of the curriculum and the public.
