The Severn Deanery offers the highest standards of education in General Practice and the success rates in the MRCGP are excellent. 


Severn Deanery GP Trainees Top of the Class!

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has just published figures showing that Severn Deanery GP Trainees had the best pass rates amongst all deaneries in England, Scotland and Wales in both the CSA and AKT during 2008.

 Head of School, Dr Bill Irish, says, “This is stunning. Even better than last year, which was itself pretty good! Congratulations to all of you, and in particular to trainers and GPEs.  A huge triumph!”

In August 2010, co-funded by the Severn Deanery School of Primary Care and the South West Public Health Training Programme, there will be two innovative posts available to develop leadership in General Practice. Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) - Please note you can also apply for this in your ST1 & 2 years.
We offer OOPE opportunities in two contexts:
1. When you are applying for GP training.
Five OOPE programmes are available from August 2010, one available in each of  the five locations. These are recruited to as part of the ST1 application process for GP specialist training. The five placements will be clearly

2. During your ST2 year
We can also accomodate up to a further five OOPE placements. Applications open at the beginning of your ST2 year and are considered independent panel.

The GP School has a number of contacts in Africa, South and South East Asia and will support and work closely with successful applicants to identify a suitable placement. We believe this year is best taken as a full 12-month break between the second and third year of training. Further detailed information can be found by clicking on the below document:




Scholarships
Trainee's who wish to develop additional expertise in areas such as Medical Education and in PCT based commissioning are invited to apply for a scholarship at the beginning of their ST2 year. Successful candidates are selected to extend their GP Registrar year by one month which enables trainees to gain expertise in these areas.

Fellowship Programme
Once you have completed your training here at the Severn Deanery there are still further oppotunities we can offer you! We recruit to five one year fellowship programmes during the spring and invite current GP Registrars to apply. Fellows develop expertise by working on curriculum development, small group facilitattion, education delivery and mentoring of trainees.
